Position : Senior Draftsman
At OCEON since: 2010

As a graduate Architect, I was worried about finding a career path that would fulfil my competitive spirit and still provide the work/life balance that I needed for my growing family. Years after taking my position at GLOBAL OCEON, I have been married and also had a baby. At the time, I had no idea how much flexibility I would need.

Now as a senior Draftsman with the CADD team, I have worked on various projects , big and small, gaining a strong understanding of the industry. In my role as the Deputy Lead of the CADD team, I have had to relate with various disciplines within and outside the company to resolve major and minor complexities on sheets of paper while managing a host of people to achieve the same efficiently and effectively. In addition, I review various tenders the Company is involved in and contribute in the preparation of the eventual bids. With the support of my leaders, I've undergone various trainings (both Software and Management trainings), both locally and internationally that has helped me do my job better.

In 2012, I had the opportunity to gather a lot of experience while being thrown at the heart of the MPN satellite field development project (SFDP). My work took me across various departments outside the CADD department ranging from working with the Survey Team of Subsea 7 and Brone Offshore to carry out a Seabed scan of the MPN fields. Next with the FUGRO Dive team that mostly loved diving at night yea... Dark Night. Then working with the Fabrication team at Aveon Offshore yard and NigerDock yard during the topside and Jacket fabrication works. Finally working with the load-out and the Installation team showed my creative side where no idea was ever thrown away.

Working with the best engineers within and outside Oceon is a great experience and has allowed me to gather a huge amount of knowledge that I now use every day. Even after 4 years, my tasks are still challenging and exciting. I strongly believe that the working atmosphere at OCEON is particularly positive, motivating and fair. The cooperation with the OCEON management is as personal and relaxed as the working relationship with the OCEON team members. OCEON is really the right place for immense career growth as well as where employees are constantly exposed to new challenges in the oil, gas and other energy industries.

In the times when Nigeria is pushing hard for local content, I am happy to be a pioneer of Engineering done by Nigerians in Nigeria through OCEON. Today, the story is, "I have been mentored and now mentoring others." Together with my team, we can proudly say we have the skills to execute Riser systems design and hydrodynamic activities with OCEON being the first and only engineering company to achieve this feat in Nigeria. Only few companies put such trust in young engineers to grow and develop expertise in these kind of areas OCEON has decided to venture in.

OPPORTUNITY WORTH MILLIONS

Position: Pipeline Engineer
At OCEON since: 2009

Indeed, the journey so far has been all-encompassing and captivating for me. My name is Michael ILAWE, a graduate of chemical engineering from the University of Benin, Nigeria. I was employed as a Pipeline Engineer in Global OCEON Engineers Nigeria Limited.

After my NYSC in Abia state Nigeria, I chose to start my career with OCEON on the basis of her vision statement which is to be the Best engineering design company delivering projects in accordance with good project management practices. This however is in line with my future aspiration of becoming a world class engineer recognised for excellence in oil and gas engineering designs.

OCEON is a multi-disciplinary engineering design company and due to this versatility and multi-cultural elements present, I have experienced growth in my people's skill and also in some engineering technicalities aside from my course of study. Ordinarily the deliverables issued out by OCEON's Pipeline department of which I currently reside are not taught in our undergraduate studies. You would have to travel out of the country. OCEON has given an opportunity worth millions of naira and for this, I am grateful.

I stand with OCEON!

Position: Riser and Hydrodynamic Engineer

At OCEON since: 2017

I underwent my postgraduate study in Subsea & Pipeline Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom.

It was a thrilling experience studying and working with the best minds from all corners of the globe, but being introduced to the Subsea industry, in itself, was more than enough to captivate me as a young engineer developing my skills in the Oil industry.

However, this experience was just a glimpse of the big picture that I was to behold at Global Oceon Engineers. My taste buds watered the very minute I had a look through the company's website. The fact that an indigenous company took on engineering challenges right from conceptual layout of a Subsea field, to the design of Subsea facilities and to the installation aids, makes it unparalleled to its counterparts. For this reason, accepting an unpaid internship at Global Oceon was an easy decision to make, as this was the perfect opportunity to put to practice the skills I had acquired and develop myself further as a Subsea Engineer (Specializing in Riser systems Design & its associated dynamics)
