By definition, conceptual studies provide the basis for the front-end or basic engineering in an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) project. Conceptual design study of gas and oil processing facilities consists of many complex processes. It is an process that provides all the options in engineering for all possible production profiles in the lifetime of the facilities.

The conceptual study kicks-off with a basis of design from the sponsor and then, the basis of design is reviewed along with the project.

Various process routes are investigated for example location, environmental conditions, FEED specification, product specification among other requirements, available space, required availability and production profile and lifetime
